About NHS Future Fit

NHS Future Fit is about improving the hospital services provided at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford to meet the needs of our communities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

After listening to the views of thousands of local people over the last four years, our doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff have developed a proposed new model of hospital care – for one hospital to become an Emergency Care site and the other hospital to become a Planned Care site, with a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre at both hospitals. There are two options on how we deliver this model of hospital care and we are asking for your views.

Clinical group joins together to look at next stages of health transformation

20th April 2016

Over 100 clinicians, health professionals, patient representatives and members of the voluntary sector came together last night to help plan the way forward for health services for patients in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales.

The “Clinical Reference Group” concentrated on developing plans for transforming hospital, primary and community based services.

Afterwards Dr Julian Povey, Chair of Shropshire CCG said: “ It was a brilliant meeting, bringing together many partners, with lots of enthusiasm and giving us clear steps to go forward.”

The meeting re-established some of the basic principles behind the NHS Future Fit programme. These included:

• “Home is normal” for care
• An emphasis on prevention
• Acute outcomes for patients are better when services are specialised and centralised
• Doing nothing not being an option

Dr Jo Leahy, Chair of Telford & Wrekin CCG said: “There was a well balanced mix of reality,  honest challenge, passion and energy and everyone who attended made a valuable contribution.”

Dr Edwin Borman, Medical Director for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) said: “We all want the safest possible care for local patients and the Clinical Group confirmed that Future Fit principles are the best way of achieving that."

Feedback from the event will be considered soon by the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
