Patients say the current planned care system is complex, fragmented and difficult to navigate. Most people we have talked to said they were more concerned about being able to get to hospital than the distance they had to travel. For complex operations they would prefer to be seen by a specialist in a centre of excellence.
The evidence gathered by our local doctors and patients shows that a single Diagnostics and Treatment Centre, with seven day working, will give patients the best quality treatment. It will help us to keep specialist services in our area and could bring some services back to the county from other parts of the region.
The centre will work independently from the Emergency Centre and doesn’t need to be located on the same site. Specialists will be able to carry out 80% of all planned surgery in the Diagnostics and Treatment centre, while patients needing the most complex operations will go to the emergency centre.
